Why shadow speaking helps before impromptu practice.

Shadow speaking trains the mouth before the brain has to invent ideas. You read a short model line aloud, match the rhythm, and feel how clear sentences move. This is useful for learners who know what they want to say but lose fluency while speaking.

Use shadow practice as a warm-up. Read three to five lines slowly, then repeat them at a natural pace. Notice sentence stress, pauses, endings and linking words. After that, record your own answer on a related topic.

The combination matters: shadow speaking improves rhythm, while impromptu recording improves thinking under pressure. Together they help you sound clearer without memorising a fixed script.

Try this as a ten-minute session: shadow two short passages, mark three linking phrases you like, then answer a fresh topic using those phrases naturally.

For pronunciation practice, focus on one skill at a time: sentence stress, endings, pauses or pace. Trying to fix everything in one pass makes the drill noisy. One focused repeat is usually better than five rushed repeats.
