3-minute speech

How to do a 3 minute impromptu speech without rambling.

Three minutes feels long only when you have no map. Use a simple opening, three-part middle and clean conclusion.

0:00-0:20

Restate the topic and give your main answer. This is your point.

0:20-2:30

Use the rule of three: three reasons, three examples or three mini-points that support your answer.

2:30-3:00

Summarize the strongest idea and end with one deliberate closing sentence.

Rule of 3 example.

Topic: Should students learn public speaking? Answer with three reasons: confidence, interviews and teamwork. Then conclude: that is why public speaking is a practical life skill.

For shorter rounds, use one-minute speech practice and the speaking test.
